Are there any ways to help engage yourself in a lucid dream?

If there are any ways at all, what are they? Also, If you have had a lucid dream, what can you tell me about it? What did you do in it?

Last night i had a lucid dream, i was back out in Cyprus where i used to live, and i realised i was dreaming because i was riding horses and i don't ride anymore, but i also can't go back to WHERE i lived. So i went to have a look around on horseback, bit then i came to a house which i used to pass on my way to school, and i kept changing the color of the paint just by imagining it different.

If you want to engage yourself in a lucid dream just do things which you know would hurt you in reality, like throwing yourself off a cliff, or crashing into a dog food factory.
