Question:

Are there any ways to make an eggshell hard?

I've emptied an egg by poking a hole on one of its end and pouring out the egg white and yolk. Now I need to make the egg hard and firm, best if it's unbreakable (lol) so that I can paint over it w/o making cracks here and there. So, do you guys have any ways to make the egg as hard as possible?

Simple but effective solutions are most welcomed ;D

Thanks!

  1. Check out a glue, sealer, finish product called Mod Podge at your local arts and craft store or online.  Mod Podge is usually found in the decoupage materials area.  Mod Podge somes in satin and glossy finishes and I've recently seen some called Mod Podge Hard Coat that provides a harder coating than the standard material does.

You might try starting with 3 or 4 layers and see if that gives you the strength and hardness you are desire.  Apply the Mod Podge on one half of the egg, let it dry, apply to the other half, let it dry and repeat for each of the layers.

If you want to add some additional interest then you can apply colored tissue paper after 3 coats and then apply a fourth coat to seal it.

  2. Fill the shell with plaster.
