Try listening to your textbooks instead.  Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic can send you your textbooks on special CDs.  If you follow along while you listen, you will soon be able to understand more.  Also, if they don't have a book already recorded for you, their volunteers can record it.  Try www.rfbd.org or call them at 866-RFBD-585.
