Are there any white sandy beaches near puerto plata (Dominican Republic)?

Question

Were leaving from the Uk to Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic) on Monday and realise that the south coast has white sandy beaches and where we are going has yellow beaches. However are there any white sandy beaches near Puerto Plata , or are they only in the south west/east

My son returned from the north of the island on Monday and the beaches were beautifully white and sandy.I am not sure where Puerto Plata is located but I do know both my son and his partner got violent food poisoning so be careful what you eat.Apparently the Dominican Republic is renowned for poor food hygiene.Hope you don't mind me warning you.Enjoy you're holiday.
