  1. It is possible, all across the country there have been reports of black cats, there are cougars, and bobcats, and lynx in the US ( as far as wild cats). Cougars black phases are unusual in The US. And I am not sure about Bobcat and Lynx. Anyway all of those cats are native to Montana.

It could also be a black leopard ( panther) that some one got as a pet when it was young, that escaped, or was released into the wild.

  2. mountain lions, bobcat, lynx. but , not black panthers.

they live in south america.(warm climate)and would most likely not survive the winter due to lack of a thick coat.

maybe feral, black ,domestic cats, but even so, not wild, feral.

  3. Yes, they can be anywhere. the Joplin, Missouri Sheriff responded to a call of a black panther after getting reports for a while.. kitty wasn't happy and got shot. It was declawed, and was a "pet" somebody abandoned or got loose. So you never know where they will pop up!

  4. Probably.  Both cougars and bobcats are known to have black phases, like the leopard, and there are probably some in Montana.  When I lived in California's remote high Sierras, there was a black bobcat living under the abandoned house next door that bore three kittens, two tawny-colored and one black.
