Question:

Are there are other possible explanations for these annoying eye floaters?

Just last week I discovered I have eye floaters in one eye... I know that they are caused by the breakdown of some sort of jelly in the eye, but I am only 20 years old! The other day I noticed I was waking up with a sort of crust in my eye and my vision has been kind of fuzzy when I first wake up. Is it possible that I have an infection / pink eye? Are the floaters completely unrelated?

PS - I am seeing the eye doctor in 2 days, I couldn't make an earlier appt.

  1. In reverse order, the timing is fine.  No need for an emergency visit, but fresh floaters should get a precautionary check, apart from the infection possibility.

The two are very unlikely to be linked.  It is just possible for an iritis to produce floaters in the anterior chamber, but two weeks of that sort of iritis would normally produce *much* more in the way of symptoms of pain and redness.

98% of fresh floaters are harmless but 2% are an early indicator of retinal detachment, so it's a worthwhile visit in any case.
