I plan visiting Cairns, which is in the northeastern region of Australia, and I was curious as to if there are any botflies in the rainforest of that area. Could someone please tell me?

  1. Yes, you need not to worry in advance.

  2. Or do you mean "butterflies"?

Then yes I would say there are.

  3. Never heard of a botfly. We do have common house flies, blow flies and sand flies though. Mosquitoes would be your biggest concern.

  4. A small family of botflies, represented in Australia by only three known species:   Oestrus ovis   L., the sheep nasal botfly;   Cephalopina titillator   (Clark), the camel botfly; and   Tracheomyia macropi   (Froggatt), the kangaroo botfly.

I've seem them on horses in Perth, don't know about Queensland.

  5. I've never heard of botflies. You need to use insect repellent in the rainforest to protect from mosquitoes, some of them carry some unpleasant diseases , especially in tropical areas.
