  1. Raccoons are generally nocturnal however, they do occasionally come out in the day, as so do some other nocturnal.especially when the weather is dark and dreary or if the rain has affected it's living quarters. Like it has in the Midwest. They do move around during the day, but lay low until night fall.

Same with any other Nocturnal animal although bat are something the very very rarely comes out in the day.

  2. lions, hippopotamous, bears, gorillas, elephants, dragons and dinosaurs

  3. Obviously any animal acting out of character should be cause for thought although, without more, perhaps not concern. A nocturnal animal being active during the day should be included. Generally this type of behavior might indicate something is wrong with the animal - like rabies.  If the animal also had other warning signs such as lack of care (looked unkempt, thin, dull eyes, etc) or it had other odd behaviors such as not showing fear of people or other animals, then i would be very wary.

Any animal that is normally nocturnal could be seen during the day without it meaning that something is wrong but you should take note of the behavior in case you see something else that - combined - should trigger you to be concerned.

  4. Rattlesnakes, bear, cougar, bobcat, skunks.

  5. Any animal that is normally nocturnal should be generally avoided if you see them during the day. A good example of this is skunks. Rabies can run rampant in skunk populations, and as the animals become sick and disoriented they will venture out during the day. This can be one reason you will sometimes see an increase in skunk roadkill--they become too confused to stay out of the road. Racoons are not as frequent carriers of rabies, but you should be suspicious if you see one in daylight, particularly if it is acting strangely.

  6. The domestic dog causes more harm and injury to people then any other animal.

There are certain periods when animals that don't usually move around much during day do so.  Breeding season is one.  Another is when young animals leave the parents to find their own territory.
