Are there certain things that make you think of other completely random stuff?

for example...my friend put on one of those beanies with the braids on the sides and all i could think of was"burrito"...has stuff like that ever happened to u? what was it that happened and what did it make you think of?

Sure, not with a beanie though!

Our brains work that way, not by outline(!) in a linear fashion, moving from A to B and then C followed by D, logically, etc.

This reminds you of that.  It can be a smell, a trick of light or shadow, a face, anything.  A certain smell reminds you of a vacation at the beach, which reminds you of surfing and the taste of salt water and how things look underwater.  Which next reminds you of an aquarium and its fish near that beach, and on and on.
