  1. made of carbon

  2. No, there are no synthetic fertilizers that can legally be used on an organic farm. All fertilizers must be from natural mined sources, plant materials or manure. Sewage sludge is not allowed.

That said, there is no USDA standard for fertilizers (i.e. no organic certification for such) so it is a buyer beware situation at present. there are lots of soil amendments/fertilizers on the market that have the term organic on the label that have banned substances such as synthetics, sewage sludge, etc.. If you are buying organic fertilizers you must know the ingredients. If they are not listed do not buy.

Many years ago when I was a newly minted certified organic farmer (pre USDA days) I was sold what was claimed to be organic fertilizers. Turns out the fertilizer was not organic and my farm was de-certified for 3 years-ouch, lesson learned. I am no longer certified organic but still farm as though I were and I am very careful as to where I get my fertilizers now. Most of my soil amendments are made on the farm but i still like using certain rock powders such as hard and soft phosphate and green sand

  3. In terms of what one would normally think of as a chemical fertilizer, no, they can not be used.  If you have an organic farm (certified organic), you can only use products that are certified for organic prodution or that are allowed.

Organic farmers also use certain processed fertilizers such as seed meal, and various mineral powders such as rock phosphate and greensand, a naturally occurring form of potash. These methods help to control erosion, promote biodiversity, and enhance the health of the soil.

  4. yes poo

  5. No.

However some people think Gypsum, soap, Rock phosphate, vinegars etc are not chemicals and okay to use in organic farming. Some think otherwise!

It is up to you to decide.
