Are there compact fluorescent bulbs that work with dimmer switches?

I thought dimmers worked with all kinds of bulbs. It just reduces the amount of energy allowed to flow into the bulb at any given time.

There are, but they can have some performance problems with humming, stutter dimming and colour shift. Some brands work better with some dimming units than others. Here's a list:

If you use normal compact fluro's on a dimmer switch they tend to fail pretty quickly.
