Question:

Are there conflicts of interest fir electric companies on energy conservation?

Almost every electric company has tips for energy conservation on their websites, and on their month bills. Isn't true that the less energy we use the less money they will make? Their share price would drop if they make less money. So are they just making a gesture that they care about energy conservation?

  1. They have to buy high priced energy from another company if they don't have the capacity themselves to make enough energy, thus they will lose money if they have to buy too much.

  2. Yes. You are right. It's greenwash.

Most of the time they nudge the prices up and blame it on oil prices, then announce record profits !!

If they were really concerned they would be investing heavily in offshore wind. - but no, two lightbulbs each is much better.

Did you know all CFL's would actually be even cheaper to run if they removed the ballast resistor ? (but that would mean it costs you less - maybe it's bigger than it really needs to be)
