  1. Today's 'witchcraft' can best be understood by thinking of it as a way to alter your specific universe by using the Law of Attraction and the Law of Similarities.  There is nothing sinister about it.  It would also be seen as prayer where the prayer actually performs actions and uses mental abilities to help bring about changes in their lives instead of relying on "Someone else" to give it to them.

Real "Magick" - You can do spells to help you with specific problems in your life such as money, attracting a mate, protection, injustice.  However, it takes time, effort and lots of mental discipline.

Fantasy Magic - You brew up a potion in a few minutes, or simply wave your arms and can do things like blowing up 'demons', or freezing people, or creating lots of wealth, etc., etc.

Real Magick uses the sames laws of science that those scientists who believe in the String Theory use.  In other words, it is believed by those who practice that all things are related.  In many ways, it is not much different than practicing the ideas in the book "The Secret".  You need to envision what you want, and do positive reinforcement many times before you achieve your goal.  Also, you may not get what you think you were after, but you usually receive that which you need.

  2. Modern Witchcraft, also known as "Wicca", is a Neo-Pagan religion that dates back to the 1930s and an effort by British Scholar and Mystic Gerald Gardner, along with Doreen Valiente and Alex Sanders, to recreate and revive the Pre-Christian Western European religions.  It is the most widely practiced of the Modern Neo-Pagan faiths, and bears no relation of any kind to "witchcraft" as described by Hollywood or the Christian Church.  It was, in fact, to avoid that confusion that many practitioners have chosen the newer terms of "Wicca" and "Wiccan" over "Witchcraft" and "Witch".

One easy difference, Wiccans don't believe in the Devil, they don't believe in h**l, and they believe in complete equality of the sexes.  Their guiding moral compass is known as the "Wiccan Rede", "So it harm none, do what you will."  Feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions on the subject.
