  1. what zap said ... nice

  2. no there are not

a hockey skate is not like a razor blade, it has two seperate edges (inside and outside) therefore you can only sharpen it using a skate sharpener

  3. Skate blades can be sharpened at different depths and with different silhouettes, called  a radius or rocker, to provide a variety of performance elements.

A shorter/smaller radius has minimal skate blade touching the ice, enabling more responsive lateral movement and quicker turns. A longer radius enables greater stability and sustained stride because of the extended effective edge in touch with the ice.

Skate hollows are generally adjusted to account for player weight and ice hardness. A deeper hollow will provide more bite and is more beneficial to lighter weight players and/or harder ice surfaces.

Conversely, a heavier player skating on softer ice with a deep hollow will feel slower and sluggish because he or she is sinking too far into the ice surface.

Skate blades have not been regulated by any leagues, to date. With products like the Thermablade (heated blade to reduce surface friction) entering the market, the NHL has taken a more proactive role in determining how far blade technology should influence the game.
