Are there earthquakes in San Jose?

and how often do they occur, being so close to S.F and all.

  1. Yes, all of California has earthquakes.  Some places experience more that others but all do.


  2. Earthquakes do occur in San Jose, when the plate moves San Jose will be greatly affected.

  3. san jose does have quakes. they have small quakes one every 6 months or so. thes you really dont feel being a 2.0 or less. once every few years, about 1-2 years 3.0 and 4.0s are felt. these may knok light objects off shelves, but nothing much.

    6.0s and more cause a bit of structual damage. some like 7.0s are strong enough to tilt a door frame making it impossible to close the door. also gutters will fall off the house. thses come once in a very long time over 20 or 30 years
