Are there energy efficient light bulbs with a light closer to that of regular bulbs?

I really dislike the type/tone of light those curly(?) energy efficient bulbs put out.

  2. those curly bulbs are CFLs or compact fluorescent lights and they have vastly improved  them recently. they now make them in a wide variety of shades so just go to your local hardware store and ask around.

  3. Florescent bulbs have quite a few numbers that indicate the light put out:

    Lumens= quantity of light

    Watts and  watt  equivalency= power used and equivalent power in an incandescent

    now the important stuff:

    CRI (color rendition index)  which is quality of color, 100 is the best possible, 0ver 82 is pretty darn good, under 70- these are the bulbs that are probably irritating you.

    And color, in a K number and some time in words, starting with warm white= about 2300K, cool white= about 3600K, then daylight and full spectrum which are usually above 4300k  these last two are the bulbs you probably want unless you are looking to duplicate the slightly yellow color of incandescents.

    go to a Real Light bulb dealer, not a hardware store and get a demonstration.

    buy a few from that guy, then you will know what you like and can price shop a little better.

    Seldom do you see the real good bulbs on deep discount sales, but, you are saving so much on energy, its OK to spend $6 on a bulb for the important ones.

    For straight florescent tubes, try Chroma 80 tubes.

  4. yes, they now make flourescent light bulbs that are more yellow looking, instead of blue.

    all bulbs have a CRI number on the box, you need to find one with a high spectral number.
