  1. I dont think on the scales of time you are considering.  Trapped in ice doesnt shield from cosmic rays and the high energy/highly destructive rays (X-rays, Gamma rays) that  are present in the universe.


  2. One example of DNA that survived for quite a long time was that of the Ice Man, found in the mountains of Europe. Scientists thought he had been there for about 5,000 years, but were able to extract DNA from him.

They have isolated DNA from Wooly Mammoths trapped in ice for over 10,000 years.  Now some idiots want to try to cross it with Elephant DNA to see if eventually they can make a Wooly mammoth.  Since it appears that it may have been one of the stupidest mammals ever, it doesn't seem worthwhile to me.
