Are there fire ants in Great Britain?

I was bitten by red ants this morning and it really burns and stings badly

I found a map showing their range in the US and below it, in the world, and they don't appear to be a reported species in Great Britain--yet.

No, but we do have red ants which can give a very nasty bite, nothing like your fire ants though.

Not yet, hopefully it will stay that way as it is too cold. There are red ants in the UK which will bite and cause an irritation but unless you are very sensitive they should not cause any problems.
