Are there frequent hurricanes in Daytona Beach Florida?

I am thinking about moving to that area to go to college(Bethune-Cookman University) I dont want to live there if it is a hurricane prone area. Please help me! I would prefer to get answers from people that live there, or visit often. Thanks!

Not that frequent. The months they frequently occur are the summer months when B-C usually isn't in session.

I would not say they are frequent.  Right now we are being hit with Tropical Storm Fay.  Buildings are now built to higher standards for wind.  Unless you are directly on the coast, you should be fine.  The dangerous things during hurricanes are the potential for flooding and also for tornados.  If you move here, be smart and check drainage and things like your home's height above sea level.  Do not be afraid of moving just because there is a potential for hurricanes.
