  1. Yeah, you can get some fiddler crabs, fill the tank up half way and have a rock or log in there for them to climb out on..There pretty cool critters to have...One time I had 350 of those things..I just bought them all to resell..

  2. hermit crabs dont live under water. well they do in the wild but not in captivity so try hermit crabs they might have some in your local pet store or your mall might have them

  3. yea petsmart has some red claw crab or something, but they don't/can't live underwater all the time.

  4. any crabs can live in a 5 gallons tank but you must need a decor that has access to land for crabs to breathe. Crabs don't need air pump but access to land to breathe unlike fishes.

You can try red claw crabs and fiddler crabs, but i recommend red claw because fiddler crabs are brackish water. You may keep them in 2.5 gallons acrylic tank, its big enough, 2.5 gallons glass tank seems to be smaller than the acrylic.

I used to have 2 red claw crabs, female crab laid eggs all over the tank, made water messy so i changed the water. Female crab escaped from a 10 inches high tank, decor to the top of the tank was 4 inches, and then male was lonely, it stopped eating and died.

All the "freshwater" crabs sold in stores (almost always fidler, even if sold under other names) require brackish or even full saltwater.  Keeping them in freshwater will almost always kill them when it gets to their first molt and they can't regenerate their shells.  If you want something just as entertaining, but MUCH easier to care for, freshwater shrimp would be a good choice.  Ghost Shrimp are very active and tend to swim laps, but look phenomenal perched on a clump of Java Moss.  Red Cherry Shrimp, as their name suggests, are a vivid red and breed very quickly.  Crystal Red Shrimp have a slightly more glassy appearance than RCS, but breed just as easily and look just as cruscacean in their movement.  There are numerous other species and color morphs, but the only one you should be cautious of is the Bamboo/Singapore/Wood Shrimp, which gets quite large and needs a lot of suspended particulate for feeding, as it uses fan-like claws to filter-feed.
