Are there grants for teachers who want to develop curriculum?

A friend of mine is a teacher whose method of teaching elementary-level writing has gotten a lot of support and positive feedback from his peers, and has actually shown consistent improvement in his students' writing scores on state testing. He's considering putting his method together into a book and/or seminar, and I'm wondering what kind of funding might be out there for that kind of work. Also, how does one go about promoting such an idea?

  1. Not sure about funding but:

    First, copyright it.

Then, put together a "workshop" plan with different levels (include student work samples and supporting data)

For example, a 30 minute "Intro" to the program; a 2-3 hours "Beginners Program"; and a 3-4 week support plan for educators who will implement the program.

Next, present the "Intro" program at Educational Conferences like ASCD (Assoc. for Supervision and Curriculum Development) or IRA (International Reading Assoc.) and maybe get a booth at one of the conferences.

Many new programs have begun like this.

  2. There are several ways to get government grants depending on your target audience.  Look at the grant information to determine what your looking at.  Here is a how to article on how to find such grants.  http://www.ehow.com/how_2223269_easily-a...
