I have been diagnosed with a case of depression. I have been on medication now for 3months. Problem is I notice that I start doing things and don't realize Iam doing them. I move and change things. It's hard to explain but its like I am unconsciously floating through my work. Not to mention the mono case I recently had come down with 2 weeks ago. Basically I am trying to come to work and work but I keep messing up. So am I protected...??

  1. Depression, if you were to call it a mental illness, is so very common these days that I doubt you would be protected from the things that it makes you do. Don't get me wrong, I understand completely what depression can do for a person because I suffer from it also. Your best and only option would to go to a doctor and discuss your options.

  2. As far as protected, it depends on where you work.  You may have OCD also.  You need to see a doctor.  You really can't be protected in your job unless you have a documented disability.  You may want to get your medication re-evaluated if your having symptoms that you haven't experienced before, like the unconsciously floating through work and such.  Mono makes you tired also.  You may want to get a doctors order to be off work for a little while.  Can you do that?  If you need more than a few weeks to recuperate, do you have short term disability?  there are options but it depends on where you live.  Are you in the US?

EDIT...moving and changing things can be a symptom of obsession/compulsive.  Depends on the motive for doing that.  If your not on the right med, new symptoms can pop up.

Medication can affect people in different ways.  Also, having so much on your mind in your personal life can make you preoccupied even if you don't mean it to.  Need more info.  Are you going through lots in your life or do you think this is truely clinical depression where there is a  chemical imbalance and not situational depression.  There is a difference.
