Are there leg protectors for a wooden picnic table?

I have an old wooden picnic table that I have sealed and painted. The underside of the legs are a little bit rotted. Are there protectors or caps I can put so they won't suck up moisture? The legs are 2 X 4's. Thanks!

  1. I would cut off the damaged part,,,,and get some brick pavers to put under the legs......

  2. If there is existing dry rot, it will continue to rot.  You need to remove this and treat with a dry rot treatment (Home Depot). If you are able to use the table after the legs have been shortened, you need to seal up the wood  (Home Depot)

  3. best thing to do is replace them-rot will win sooner or later

  4. I would change out the legs if possible. If not you might try wrapping the legs in contact paper, will make it look better and get another year service.I have done that with particle broad surfaces and get a couple years more use from it.But really water on the legs is not as bad as direct sunlight all the time. That will dry out and rot wood faster.
