Hi there, I am just wondering about Malaga in general if anyone has been there, or can direct me to any good sites or newsletter pages that I can go look at. I am wondering about accommodation on the cheap- but I want to be within walking distance of the beach. Is Malaga touristy all year round? How is the weather in Dec? I could go on and on... I know some of this can be found on the net- but what Im really after are personal experieces of people- not just a lot of encyclopedia mumbo jumbo. Anyone that can give some good practical knowledge- THANKS... especially about staying around Malaga and how much its going to cost.

  1. I've lived in Andalucia for nearly 34 years, and B&B's (as known in the UK and France) have never been adopted here as accomodations...Before answering, I went to the website the other person gave you, just to check...and there is only 1 in Benalmádena Pueblo, (which is definitely NOT within walking distance of the beach, as B Pueblo is way up on a hill!)

Your least expensive bets are HOTELS 1* & 2*, and HOSTALES which you can find with ease in most towns and villages all along the andalusian coast...In december you needn't worry too much about reservations (unless it is Xmas week).

Your prices will vary depending on the time of year you travel. And yes Malaga is tourist-minded all year round. The weather here in december is usually nice, temperatures vary from 8º to 18º (centigrade). And many days people can go sunbathing and the more hardy even try the water! (I wouldn't!) We have often had lunch on our terrace, in short sleeves on january 1st.

The best places with beachfronts are:

Torremolinos (especially La Carihuela) , Benalmadena-COSTA (not Pueblo), Fuengirola, La Cala de Mijas (in Mijas-Costa) Mijas-Costa itself (there you have Sitio de Calahonda (where I live), Riviera del Sol, Miraflores and Torrenueva), Marbella, San Pedro Alcántara & Estepona.

The eastern coast of Málaga has lovely beaches, but not much else to do as it has not developed as much as the western coast has. Torre del Mar is nice though, but it has more german speaking foreign residents than english speaking ones...

The beaches are fairly good all along the coast...The one in La Cala de Mijas is nice, the one in Fuengirola also, (The Paseo in Fuengirola goes from Los Boliches to the Castillo Sohail and is the longest on the coast...over 8 kms. of beachfront!) and the ones in Marbella are fantastic from Elviria all the way to Puerto Banus.

As to prices you could probably find something decent in a 2 star hotel, or even a 3 star... in december... for around 25 to 30 euros including breakfast... A hostal would probably be cheaper, but I can't give you any prices for those...

    Have a good trip!

  2. Here is site listing B&B's in Malaga, Spain:

    http://www.ibbp.com/europe/spain/malaga....

Another option would be to stay in a Malaga hostel:

Hope you find something you like!

    As for the weather in December, temperatures will range from 46 - 63 F (9 - 17 C).

A good guide book can be invaluable for this kind of trip - Frommer's, Lonely Planet and Rough Guides have so much useful and practical information.

    Have a wonderful trip.

  3. I can't be of much help as far as costs go. It has been 20yrs. since I was there! I wanted to tell you that it is a beautiful place. The water is a blue that is like no other, & it was so clear that a handful of sand seemed to fall forever! You will enjoy the cuisine while there also, its wonderful... Have fun and see all you can!!!
