I would like to consider meteorology as a career but I don't want to be on tv. Are there other kinds of meteorologists and what do they do? Thanks

  1. Absolutely, tv meterologists are a small segment of that occupation, some other places you could work would be for airlines, newspapers, military, or just about any type of major transportation industry.  And being on tv is just a small part of their job the rest is the same as any meteorologist, basically looking at computer modules to try to predict the weather.

  2. Yes.  I am actually majoring in meteorology and i don't want to be on tv.  You can be behind the scenes, or you can work at your national weather service station in your state.  There are several things you can do.  You still have to take public speaking classes to become a meteorologist, regardless if you want to be on tv or not, but the answer to your question is yes.  If you work for your national weather service, you would just work on the computer all day and take phone calls, and if the weather is expected to get threatening, you would send warning messages across people's tv's at home.  If you work behind the scenes, you would just be on the computer all day as well.  You would be in charge of what we see on tv, like setting up slide shows for the tv meterologists to show people at home.  You can also be a storm chaser.
