Are there mites in aspen shavings?

has anyone ever come across mites or parasites in aspen shavings? I'm using it for my ball python

  1. I've had my ball python on aspen bedding for the six years Ive had her, and she only had mites once. If it has mites, its probably not the bedding. Usually if it is too moist ( That shouldnt be a problem with aspen) and if the cage is dirtier then it should be, mites can come.


  2. Commercial aspen bedding is all heat treated by the manufacturers to make it suitable for laboratory animals so it is very safe. Even if the pet store carrying it had a bad mite infestation they would be unlikely to enter a sealed bag of shavings.

  3. nope..if you bought it from the pet store i dont see how they would have got in the bag
