Are prices on fuel efficient cars going to go up higher by next year, or will they be cheaper?

We are thinking about getting a base model manual Yaris, but are wondering if we should wait until next year, if new choices will be available.

  1. Some 09s are already out but as far as waiting goes I wouldn't personally.

A 1992-1995 Honda Civic VX Hatchback gets better gas mileage than pretty much any car including hybrids and at their age the come dirt cheap. Actual EPA numbers being 48/55 as opposed to the brand new Yaris' 34/39.

  2. I would not wait until next yr if you want a Yaris. Since it's a fairly new model design, the changes next yr will be negligible. I would consider any car that was designed from scratch in the last 2 yrs. Cars won't be cheaper per say, so I would look hard at dealers discounts & rebates. But since little 4 cyl cars are in demand, dealers can & have been asking for sticker (msrp) prices. Don't mistake a cheap car as a good car. Plenty of little cars out there with questionable quality. What good is your money on a car if your plagued by nickle & dime repairs? Spending another $1K for a Nissan over a Kia will in the long term be a better bargain. If a dealer has a nice car inbound that is what your looking for as far as color, options, & price are concerned, slap down a reservation deposit. That way when it arrives, you will have the first pickin' of it. It's not an obligation to buy it. Never actually sign a buyers order until you see the car & like it. Buying a car in today's market is more than simply walking in the door. It's a process that requires a few brain cells to be online & you have to think ahead. Look farther down the road about what will the cars resale & reliability be. Cars like Ford Focus, Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic, & Toyota Corolla would be a good buy now and used. G'luck.

  3. The 2009 Prius will be out next year. basically, take everything aboutthe current prius and make it better, including the MPG.

    2010 Prius will be plug-in.

  4. don't buy a Yaris

it has a noisy unrefined engine, bad brakes and unstable choppy hwy ride.

the Honda Fit is 10 times better

if your wanting the most efficient car wait for the 2009 VW Jetta TDI estimated at 60 mpg and green to boot.
