Are there more grains of sand of blades of grass?

My 4 year old asked me this just now, I want to tell him grains of sand but I dont think he'll understand why

  1. More sand than grass, sand is much smaller so more of it can fit in the space it takes up and the sand on the beach isn't the only sand, there is sand under the water of the ocean.  Now if baby asked if there were more grains of sand or drops of water in the ocean, I'd say that's a pretty close call...


  2. well think about all the "sand" or rock sediment in the whole world, as compared to the parts of the earth's surface with grass on it.

  3. More sand because there are the deserts
