Question:

Are there office cubicles in the UK?

I'm interviewing with a company that has a home office in the UK and branch office in the U.S. They say their company is based on a UK system of not having cubicles, and their office is completely open with people sitting in a "tripod" formation. Does anyone know about this and what it's like working in this environment?

  1. When I was a student, I worked in a lot of large offices in the UK - all of them open plan, except one!. You don't have the boxed-in, claustrophobic feeling of being in a cubicle and you are more free to build up a rapport with colleagues, other than that, it's no different than an office with a cubicle layout.

The most common layout in UK offices is a bank of desks, usually 4 or 6 in a group in an open plan, and line managers usually sit with staff too.

It may take you some time to get used to it, as in a cubicle it's almost like having your own little realm and more privacy and you may feel a little distracted, as you'll see people walking by and around you...that'll soon pass.

  2. i dont know im in the usa

  3. I had not worked at London (though I wait to do it soon) but yes in Spain in similar conditions and, it´s better than you like the people, because if you don't like them it's a problem.

At first or sometimes, it is true that the people distracts you with this disposition of the office but sooner or later you get used.

Good, really it get bored less (but the privacy is absent).

Do you think that it is a typical Anglo-Saxon distribution?. I had not thought it, but now that I do it, i think that it is possible. I have seen it especially in the movies.
