Are there oral contraceptives you can take while breastfeeding?

We do not want anymore children however, having my tubes or his "parts" tied is something to consider once the baby reaches possibly 5 yrs old. We want to prevent a pregnancy while Im breastfeeding and not rely on condoms alone.

  1. There is the mini pill... I took it while breastfeeding...the only catch is u have to take it at the exact same time everyday or u can also have the depoproveria (dont know if that is spelt right) needle that is also suitable while breast feeding... I did both while breastfeeding and the minipill was ok but i kept forgetting the time which led to some break thru bleeding and the depo needle was good for must but for me i gained 17kgs (i think about 35pounds) in 8 weeks......most people dont get that reaction from the needle....and it lasts for minimum of 3 mths..... we ended up going back to condoms....hope this helped and remember there is a pill u can take

  2. can try ortho tri cyclen (sp) low...i am breasfeeding and i'm on the shot

  3. Talk to your gyn about the mini pill, it's the only oral contraceptive you can use while nursing. Other than that, condoms are the way to go. Nursing can trigger hormones to not let you get preg, but it's not really reliable. Talk with your gyn about all your options.
