-to enable them to forgive? According to Christianity the blood of Jesus, a human sacrifice was the only way their God could enable himself to forgive us. Only the blood of Jesus in a sacrifice could work.

Being all powerful could not forgive UNLESS he used a human sacrifice.

So, how many other blood cult-religions have a God like that, all "powerful" but only a human sacrifice can enable this God to forgive?

  1. no the central american religions used them for pleasing their gods before war and farming and stuff like that not to be forgiven so i cant think of any other religion that uses human sacrifice

  2. Kind of strange Christians don't see anything wrong with a human sacrifice.

I recall the Aztecs sacrificing humans to appease their Gods, I don't think they were asking forgiveness tough.

An all powerful God that could only forgive trough his own execution..kind of silly. Whatever makes them happy!

  3. Actually, in the Aztec and Mayan religions, as in other religions that practiced human sacrifice, the people made the sacrifices to their gods in order to appease said gods........the god had to accept the gift.  In Christianity, it is the other way around.  God sacrifices his son to himself for himself in order for himself to offer forgiveness.  Makes me scratch my head.

  4. Judiasm used animals for forgiveness, but other reasons to. HOWEVER- The animal parts not used as a sacrifice went to feed the priest's in the temple as that was the only way the Priests would be able to get proper nutrition. There was a variety of foods "sacrificed" to G-d and in that way G-d insured that his loyal guardians of the temple would be well nurished

  5. It's an interesting question.  However, I find the term "blood-cult" insulting...and I'm Jewish (we've been insisting that's not valid concepts for us & dying for that for 2000 years.)  So, you might want to reword this in the future.

From what I gather, this was a common theme in earlier religions.  The idea was with sacrifice to the god/gods, he would be pleased/appeased, and things would go better in the coming year or so.  I know the Canaanites did human sacrifice, as did other early cultures.  Therefore the importance of Abraham's experience that this was not needed.

However, I don't know that any had a singluar God that was ALL powerful, & it was less used for individual sin  then for cultural guarantee for everyone who participated, certainly when it involved a human.   Sometimes they buried/burned  wives & servants with the husband or ruler/God in some cultures too (Pharoah Egyptian, some Hindu).

Guess it really bothered someone (TD) to point out this is insulting wording, when other words could be used!  Tolerance much?

  6. I don't know about others but I know that I am saved because of the blood of Jesus. We have victory over satan, death, and the grave because of the precious blood of Jesus.

"They won the victory over him because of the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. They didn't love their life so much that they refused to give it up. Be glad for this reason, heavens and those who live in them. How horrible it is for the earth and the sea because the Devil has come down to them with fierce anger, knowing that he has little time left.”

    Rev 12:11-12 (GW)

  7. Honestly, the blood for sin thing is not even Christian.

Jesus was probably crucified, but he did not say it was good news. That idea came along after Jesus was gone. More details on my bio.

So as you are suggesting, the idea came from other cultures and not Jesus himself. The Sermon on the Mount was not about blood for sin.

  8. no the Aztecs and Mayans didn't use blood sacrifice for forgiveness.  They used to it to incur favor, as a gift to their gods.  Much like human sacrifice was done for Odin of the Norse.  Only the middle eastern religions were obsessed with FORGIVENESS of sin.

  9. Human sacrifice is a theme in many religions, although it is not often linked to personal transgressions.  For instance, we know that several of the bog mummies were sacrifices.
