  1. A couple of the Fujifilm models are reputed to be the low light leaders and I would not dispute that.  A larger sensor is a sign of a camera that will work better in low light.  For point and shoot cameras, this means that you want a 1/1.8", 1/1.7" or 1/1.6" sensor.  The more common 1/2.5" sensors just can't compare in low light.

My personal pocket camera is a Canon Powershot SD950-IS and I think it does pretty well under low light, but even after comparing it to some Fujifilm samples, I think the Fuji's are a touch better.  You might have to be critical to see the difference as the SD950-IS is excellent, but it's there.

However, here are a couple of my own low-light samples:

One thing I need to point out about these samples, though, is that they are not your typical low light images.  You will see that I used a low ISO and long exposure time.  I don't have any higher ISO shots with the SD950-IS posted on-line, so here's one from Steve's reviews at ISO 250:

Click on it to view it full size and look in the shadows for the worst areas.  It's not bad.

Look at the Fuji FinePix F50fd or F40fd for excellent low light performance.

  2. Most dSLR do well in low light--due to their larger sensor.

    This was taken last night.
