Yep.  There are people scared of riding escalators and elevators because of news stories, too.

I been afraid of sharks attacking me since i can remember. I wont go in water past my knees. And i know that sarks can attck in shallow waters too but at least then its easier to see comming. I remember when i was 10 and went to mertil beach and saw a jelly fish on the sand i totally freaked out. Im scard of the ocean

Me!!..Ha, silly I know, but after the first time I saw Jaws in the movies back in the 70's, I've been weary.  I do know a shark attack is rare, but sometimes logic just disappears..

I am sure that there are a lot of people who are afraid to swim in the ocean.  It can be fearsome especially when you do not know how to swim--like me!
