Question:

Are there places where you can take classes for free running?

I just found out about parkour and free running and I'd like to be able to do that, but I can't find any places that teach you -other than online-. I don't want to jump off buildings, but wall tricks and stuff would be nice. Any help?

  1. This really depends  on your location, as there are not too many parkour specific gyms in the world. My suggestion is that if you want someone to teach you, that you look for a local freerun group.

If you get in a group of local freerunners, you not only get hands on instruction catered to your needs, but also support (physical and mental), additional safety means (they can spot you on certain moves), and can make it fun. Going out on your own is difficult as you have to push yourself to try the things that are new, however you consider how dangerous that it might be and refrain (which is good in the sense that you won't injure yourself from the stupidity that sometimes comes in the new breed of traceurs and freerunners). In a group it feels a lot easier as you aren't on your own, people who stare aren't staring just at you but a group. You can make friends, try new things, learn hands-on, practice safely and most of all, HAVE FUN!

Currently the only other sources for learning are the internet (which can be quite unreliable for many reasons) and your own personal experiences. While there are some parkour specific gyms spread across the globe, they are very few and it depends on your location as to whether any would be close at hand.

I hope that helped you out in some way. Good luck to you in your future training.
