Question:

Are there restrictions on watches in the army?

I just enlisted in the army and I NEED a watch or I feel naked. I was just wondering if you can have watches in the army or not? I'm pretty sure after basic and maybe AIT you can have them but other than that I don't know. Does anybody know if you can have them in basic, and if you can have them in general does it have to be a certain style or color. My recruiter said that if you have sun glasses they can't be a name brand or have the name brand on them. So just wondering if the same thing goes for watches. Thank you.

  1. YOU will need a military type watch, Timex sells an analog model with a watchband(green or black) and the face is black (24 hr. format)

This watch is a tactical type watch.($23.00)

meaning, YOU can't wear a bling-bling,watch that is shiny and  reflects or shines at night when you are out on a mission.

The military will issue you designer BCG  eyewear! (brown or black frames)

Get to the PX as soon as you can!

  2. there are only restrictions in combat. Otherwise, I would go for a sturdy black watch that is tastful with your uniform. Wear away

  3. What the c**p do you need a watch for?  The last thing you should want to do is see how slowly time is going.

    Just kidding.

You should be able to wear a nondescript, uniform-colored watch even in basic.  USMC recruits are not allowed to have watches (except the guides of the platoons).

    Google "Army uniform regulations"

  4. In basic, I bought a watch at the px, and nothing was said to me...and I had 4 drill sgts.

  5. You can wear it. The ones your not allowed to wear are colored watches or anything that has a purpose other than telling time. During combat, no shiny metals are allowed. As for the shiny surface of the watch, use clear tape to prevent reflections. They sell nylon watch bands with a flap to conceal the relection as well. Nobody will hold your hand. Your watch, your the target! Just dont stand next to me!

  6. dude, here is the straight skinny.the best watch for the military is LUMINOX watches.they supply most of the gov. and military.all are designed for rough times and from experience ,I can tell you it is the truth.you can find the info at  http://discountwatchstore.com

  7. Your fairly safe after basic. During basic it could be a local thing, they might not care or they might. Jewelry is on the do not bring list followed by a statement that exspensive watches are hard to safe guard:

    1–14. Wear of jewelry

    a. Soldiers may wear a wristwatch, a wrist identification bracelet, and a total of two rings (a wedding set is

considered one ring) with Army uniforms, unless prohibited by the commander for safety or health reasons. Any

jewelry soldiers wear must be conservative and in good taste. Identification bracelets are limited to medical alert

bracelets and MIA/POW identification bracelets. Soldiers may wear only one item on each wrist.

    b. No jewelry, other than that described in paragraph 1–14a, above, will appear exposed while wearing the uniform;

this includes watch chains, or similar items, and pens and pencils. The only authorized exceptions are religious items

described in para 1–7b, above; a conservative tie tack or tie clasp that male soldiers may wear with the black four-inhand

necktie; and a pen or pencil that may appear exposed on the hospital duty, food service, CVC, or flight uniforms.

The paste is from AR 670-1. Each commander can do what he wants. Take one that matches the subued style others have suggested and do not pay much. If they do confiscate it you will likley get it back at the end.

I can state beyond doubt that you will not need it. You will be awakened by human alarm clocks or a gaggle of Drill Sargents exercising their vocal cords and swinging broomsticks on the metal bed frames. AAAHHH the memories!!!

Here's a little preview of what is to come:

They say that in the Army

    The Chow is mighty fine

A biscuit rolled off the table

And killed a friend of mine

Some folks don't like my preview of Army Basic! Don't think it has changed too awful much since Dino Days, I even throw in a little butt chewing...no extra charge

It might go a little like this:

    Up before the sun.

30 minutes max for the 3 S's ($h!t, shower, shave) sometimes the shower is the night before.

    Formation.

    A little PT

    Chow

Draw weapons if going to range

    Formation

    Double time to training site

    Train

    Chow

    Train

More PT Drill Sargent We Eat This $h!t Up

    Double time back to barracks

    Stack weapons

    Post guards

    Chow

    Clean weapons if drawn

    Have weapon inspected

    Turn in weapon

    Formation

    1 hour of your time....maybe

    GI boots

    GI area

    Write mommy

    Lights out 2130-2200

    Coma time

    "DROP AND GIVE ME 20"

Keep the pie hole shut and listen.

Think out your questions...it's the Army...do not appear that you were not paying attention!!!

Do not point at food and ask WTF is that:

If it is a green looking meat like substance that is "Mystery meat". Chow down it's very good for you!

If it looks like lumpy burnt oatmeal it's SOS.

If the SOS is poured over a hockey puck...that is a biscuit!

If it is yellow and dry it is cake. Just stick it in a glass of milk, it will be fine.

If it is brown and poured over rice it is chili.....maybe...could be gravy made from left over bacon grease.

You think it will make you fat???

NO PROBLEM! I will just PT you until your legs are wore off to the knee's and your arms to the elbow!!!

    ARE WE CLEAR???

    WELL ARE WE???

    GOOD!

    Close enough anyway!

A premature welcome to "The Club"!

I have to save this in "word" so I can retrieve it more "quickerly" (a word invented by a very cute short lady)

  8. I'm bringing one with me.
