  1. I suppose that not a priori.However if a compound is polar, it can be soluble in water which is a very polar solvent


  2. Covalent compounds, most of which are liquids or gases, are generally insoluble in water. Exceptions are polar covalent compounds, which are miscible with water, methanol for example and polar solutes, following the general principles of "like dissolves like"
