Are there signs that your water is about to break?

I was wondering if there are any signs or symptoms that your water is about to break, whether your having contractions or not.

I'm not having any contractions but all of a sudden I started getting a sensation of burning down there. And it got really heavy too. The baby has already dropped so it's not that. It doesn't hurt, just weird feeling. Did anyone else experience this at all?

I felt really weird too. The strangest feeling I ever felt. I didn't have any kind of sensation or pain or nothing like that. 5 minutes later there was a gush of water. Didn't have any contractions until hours later.
