  1. Many wines will greatly deteriorate over time and best drunk young.  Beaujolais comes to mind.

  2. all wines have a limit to the age they are good at.  That age depends on the type of wine and how it is made, etc.  Cheap wines will never get any better no matter how long you let them age.

  3. Short answer is yes.  Most wines do not age well.  It takes a unique combination of vintage, grape, and winemaker skills to create a wine that will age well.  Rose and pink wines will not age.  Generic table wines (with generic labels) will get worse over time.  None will stay the same over the age.  Either, the wine will evolve and become more interesting over time, or devolve to something terrible.

  4. Most wines are made to be drank soon after bottling and will deteriorate rather than improve as time goes by.  This is especially true of white wines.

The wines that are best for aging many years are Port, Bordeaux, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

  5. Typically, white wines do not age well at all.

Nouveau Beaujolais does not age well either. Should be consumed within one year.
