Are there speed cameras on the roads in the USA?

Seems most states are using these devices.  Many locations post signs indicating the presence. Not sure the signs are effective since speed signs were probably ignored too. The state of Illinois has several units in white vans that are moved from location to location. It is nearly impossible to track all locations,,,why not slow down and not worry about them.  

Side note: On a recent episode of "Myth Busters" camera deterrence products were tested. ( the sprays, overlays,shrouds etc.) and in all cases the license plate was easily obtained.

They are all over the surface streets in Maricopa County, AZ. They even have 8 of them on a freeway in Scottsdale.

There certainly are, but also when driving out on the highways/desserts if you see an aeroplane painted on the road this indicates an aerial speed trap.  There is a line painted across the road a little further up and another line a measured mile further on.

What happens is that an aircraft flies about (not all the time) you are then timed traveling between the two points.  If you exceed the speed limit the plain or chopper will fly down and take your registration and call it through to the highway patrol who will be waiting for you with the photo and the times to travel between the two points.

If you are going fast, and you see a plane, then stop inside the lines, wait for 5 mins then start off again, they could not measure your speed properly.

Speed cameras are used in about 35 US cities and are used statewide in Arizona. Cameras currently are in use in Arizona, California, Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, and the District of Columbia.

Not only are there cameras but they can use EZPass to check your speed by seeing when you got on the highway and when you got off. Very sneaky.

oh man like you wouldn't believe. East Cleveland, OH is bursting with them. sadly that's one of their main sources of income

Of course there is. I would imagine theres a lot more there than the uk. The death toll in car accidents there is a lot lower than the uk
