Are there swimmable resort beaches on the Pacific side of Mexico and Central America?

I know on the Caribbean side almost each resort has a swimmable beach. I have heard that most resorts on the Pacific side do not have swimmable beaches due to rough waves and undertow. Is this true? Are there any spots that do have swimming and snorkeling at the beach at the resort?

  1. There are "swimable" beaches all down the coast: Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Huatulco, Puerto Escondido. Most of the pacific resort areas have "safe" and "unsafe" beaches.Almost all of them have snorkeling nearby, but I am not sure which resorts have it "on site." The problem is that beaches which are safe and calm for swimming (where the resorts are usually located) are often not the same as good snorkeling areas, BUT all these resort areas do advertise that snorkeling tours, guides and dives are available.

  2. Yes there is a lot of undertow and some days the ocean is better for surfing than swimming.

  3. Yes but you're likely to get eaten by a Great White

  4. There's lots in Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan. There's some really great snorkelling in Mazatlan. Just ask the locals where is safe to swim, or better yet, ask the people that work in the hotel, they'll be able to tell you!

  5. yes....Xittapa and Ziwatinneo (definately didnt spell that right) are both wonderful beach resort areas on the pacific side.  They have had some shark attacks lately though

  6. Mike d is correct and dont forget about Acapulco.
