I went to San Francisco about 6 months ago and picked up a lot of the tourist brochures. I remember picking one up that said something about a steam train ride and I believe it was for muir woods. I can't find it for the life of me on the internet!

It may have been a little kiddy steam train or a full fledged one but i cant find it.

  1. It could be: Roaring Camp, in the Santa Cruz mountains:

  2. There is not any kind of train at muir woods or even near there. About 80 years ago they had one, but not now. The only train near by is the Napa Valley wine train, not steam, but wonderful never the less. It is a fancy dinner train that travels up and down the Napa valley. For a steam train, they have one called the skunk train out of fort Bragg which is close to 100 miles north of SF. Other then a few kiddid trains, that is about it. Oh, yea, they have a great train musium in old Sacramento too.

  3. It wasn't Muir Woods. It was most likely either the "Skunk Train" which is way up north, in redwoods, or Roaring Camp RR, about 50 miles south of SF and also in redwoods.

Or, it might have been for the little steam trains in Tilden Park in the East Bay.

Otherwise... well, there are railroad museums in SF and Fairfield (I don't they have any rides) and in Sacramento (they do.) Ardenwood Farm (East Bay Regional Parks) has their railroad  running occasionally for special events, and there's an excursion railroad in Niles Canyon (also in the East Bay.)
