We genuinely want to smash that dirty English outfit ! Nothing is more embarassing or worse than losing to a Pom, Kiwi rivalry and Tri Nations aside, there is no bigger grudge match than Australia v England in any sporting arena, long may us "convicts" smash the arrogant Poms !

  1. I dont believe there is hatred involved, just good old fashioned rivalry.  Take the Springboks and All Blacks as an example.  Throughout the history of rugby the two have been each other's most formidable opponents.  Often each side "fears" the other more than any other side because they are the closest in wins and points scored.  So any time they play each other, the rivalry is intense (as are the nerves for the fans) because it is always a toss up as to who will win.  They are the two closest sides in so far as ability and love of the game goes.

It will be another All Black/ Springbok final in this world cup with the springboks narrowly taking the cup.

  2. Hawkeye said it. But Aussies like you are certainly working towards getting your team up the unpopularity ladder

  3. Debra M, I'm sorry to tell you this, but NZers genuianly don't like South Africans. I'm a kiwi who supports the Boks, and I can tell you, south africans are not a loved race over here, and it translates through to rugby. Sad I know, but the kiwis havent forgotten that poisioning incident... not to mention the Springbok tour. And mate, I'm on your side so don't get mad!

  4. Yeah, there is South Africa v England, NZ v England, Wales v England, Scotland v England, Ireland v England, France v England, Bosnia & Herzegovina v England..... no one likes England... except England... and that's 50/50.

  5. This talk of hatred is utterly ridiculous. You lot need to grow up or get a life.

Rivalry/desire to win etc fine - hatred/violence unexceptable.

I love to see Ireland beat England but I don't hate every English person or thing. That would be a personal failing and those people with such a chip on their shoulder or inferiority complex need to get over it.

Rugby more than other other sport has always been played in the right spirit with non segregated crowds etc and hatred has no place whatsoever. Leave that to soccer!

  6. dirty? look you got stuffed fair and square when we took the cup off you even with that ultra biast ref.

The difference between england and australia we have the nads to say we were beaten by a better team but you aussies cannot say that because you think you should win everything you play in.

For once admit it,we fully deserved to win the world cup, admitted we will proberly lose to you this coming saturday but hey thats what its all about.

So may i suggest you go take that sack of spuds off your shoulders and stop talking ****.

  7. Wales V England...is the only match that English people absolutely hate too loose. Martin Johnson said as much in his autobiography. They really can't stand loosing to us...We (and most other teams) could loose every game in the six nations but as long as we beat the english...we don't really care.

  8. Dear,

No team or even an individual player will ever hate another team. That is not the sports-man spirit. It is just to make the game look more exiting and interesting people pretend to show such feelings. You must see the players enjoying their dinner together after the match is over to realize that they really don't hate others.

If you want to know about similar case, it can be India and Pakistan cricket teams. But remember; even they do not hate each other. They just give tough fight to each other, and that is the real essence of the game.

So please through out any bitter feeling from your heart and mind well we all human beings just love each other and no one hates others. Enjoy life and love all sincerely...

    With love,

    M. T. Kazi

  9. With England V Australia is very much a "we'll get you the next time - pat on the back - let's go get a pint"

There are quite a few real HATE matches in - my experience Scotland V England in just about everything.

Then there are "Grudge" and "Historical" matches especially with football / soccer.

    Glasgow Celtic V Glasgow Rangers

England V Germany or Argentina or Holland

    Pakistan V India

    Turkish Team Football V Europe

I pick these as there have been or usually are violence, arrests and sadly in some cases death.

I could go on but - I think that's a sad enough fact

  10. Not so much hate, this is RUGBY not SOCCER, but more of a rivalry.........I would have to say it is Wales v England!

Both teams so want to beat each other and try to win at all costs!

Even Graham Henry was shocked at the high level of rivalry between us when he coached Wales.

Will Carling, as has a few English players,  showed their disdain towards us on many occasion!

But at the end of the day, it is friendly banter.........but rivalry all the same!

  11. I think it is healthy rivalry but I to laugh at a bloke on the news last night when asked about it said if he was in a queue and heard a English accent he would do his best to beat to him to the front of it.

  12. ..Maybe they'll eat heaps of bangers and mash before they head out onto the field, and will be that fat, they'll have to roll to the try line.

    Go Wallabies.

  13. Not that I'm really answering this question, but i find it amazing that there is a post by a Neil P from england, and I happen to be the exact same, another Neil P from England, both into rugby, anyhow, onto the question... I'd say its a rivalry, not a hatred, even thoug I don't like the evil wizard Mortlock, don't mean I hate him, I just know hes a good player and he's a threat.  That being said, alot of the RSS Feeds I've been recieving have been outlining that Australia want to shut down Jonno, just remember that in the final minutes of 2003, that was your only aim, which led to Hodgsons 30m break out of the ruck (cos all the Aussies were charging down "Jonnys Dropgoal') and forgot that we had 14 other players on the field, which made it a 50m attempt to a 30m..... I think Englands been getting in good form, and if Australias first team plays like their second team this weekend last, then England might have a chance.  Other than that, at least we made it out of the pool stages...  That could have been well embarrassing.

  14. Well, try England versus Scotland. Tonga versus Samoa, or Ireland versus anyone?

Personally I prefer the battle between Homer and his boss, or Coronation street versus East enders :)

Its human nature to dislike intensely people who think they are world beaters. I suppose that's why we are waiting for England to fail. The British were always good at innovation,  just cant perfect it.
