  1. Yes. My veggie daughter wouldn't eat those Linda McCartney pies, as they were too much like the real thing!. Therefore, I reckon that the real question should be "Why are there ... :-)

  2. I am a big fan of Quorn mince ... I use it in bolognese, chilli con carne, home made beef and onion pies and shepherds pie. All of my family prefer this to meat because the texture is the same but with much less saturated fat.

  3. I have found that wheat gluten products taste a lot like meat.

Also, the Boca Chik'n tastes pretty close to me: http://www.bocaburger.com/products/chikn...

Also heard Quorn is pretty close but I can't recommend it because I haven't tried it.

& try Fry's products. The Golden Crumble Schnitzel tastes pretty close to me. http://www.frys-special.com/Prod_Select....

If you are in Australia, they have Sanitarium Veggie Delights

I like Tofurky deli meats, they're good for sandwiches or wraps

  4. There is Quorn which is a substitute for meat for vegetarians however im not sure how they make it. With mushrooms i think. It takes very similar to the real thing and is available in most supermarkets.

  5. Quorn chicken style pieces are pretty d**n good! They have a better texture (IMO) than the other brands...fooled one of my carnivorous friends.

  6. If you live in england like I do there are solutions like Quorn but if you dont then I dont have a clue obn what you can eat

    so Quorn is the answer

  7. I do know if such a thing exists but I still cannot understand why it should.

  8. they don't have an alternit its the real thing or its not

  9. yes quorn

  10. Not a recipe

but I LOVE Morning Star products, their bacon, hotdogs, and chicken patties, corn dogs, buffalo wings, and grillers are fantastic.

Also, Gardenburger brand makes YUMMY Riblets.

I forgot Yves makes FANTASTIC deli meats like Salami and Bologna

  11. There's this stuff called Gardein, which I've had a few times.  I had it last year at a Humane Society event, and it was scarily like chicken.  But it's amazing.  Yves makes these Heart's Desire strips in "beef" and "chickin" style, and they're made of Gardein, but I haven't used them yet.

Other than that, not really.  It's just one of those, "eh, close enough for government work" type substitutes.

  12. Quorn is the most like meat hence the fact that the company that makes Quron plasters such boasts on the packaging of its products. I wish they wouldn't do that, I don't want something that tastes like lamb or beef or whatever, I just want a tasty alternative to real meat and fish.

In terms of recipes, just substitute the meat in a recipe from a book with Quorn.

  13. No, none. Some approximate the taste and texture of meat though. The best you can get is "close enough".

  14. itss just a shamme ur a veggie

    cant be good for u

    theree isnt

just stop being silly & eat meat u freakkkk

  15. I've made cottage pie with Quorn.

Marinade the Quorn overnight with herbs, black pepper, garlic and Marmite.

Fry large onion, add more black pepper, garlic, any herbs you like.  sometimes I add a pinch of chili powder.

Add tin  chopped tomatoes, a good squeeze of tomato paste, cook for a bit, add the Quorn, Mix well and cook over very low heat, add some good vegetable stock,a sprinkling of seasoned flour, mix well.

Put into a baking dish, cover with mashed potato, cook when wanted in a medium oven for about 40 minutes.

Tomato slices tast and look good on top.

Non vegans can add cheese to the mash.

The Quorn base for the pie needs to be thickened, not too much liquid or the potato won't sit on top!

Seasonings given are mine, you can adjust to your own taste.

Quorn is made from from fungi similar to mushrooms.

Marmite is made from yeast, not everybody's taste, full of B vitamins.  You could use Worcestershire sauce instead.

  16. The morningstar corndogs are the closet thing I can find that actually tastes real.
