  1. baboons are monkeys, chimps are apes, so no

  2. yes of course

  3. No.  Not all chimps are in the same species as other chimps for that matter.  There are two chimp species; the common chimp and the bonobo.  Both of those are more closely related with you than either is with a baboon.

    Update

<<... they have the same Genus.>>

Wrong.  Chimps are in the genus of /Pan/.  Baboons are in a genus called /Papio/.

  4. Both are primates, but chimps are apes, like gorillas, orang-utans, bonobos and gibbons, whilst baboons are monkeys, like mandrills, vervet monkeys, capuchins, squirrel monkeys and so on. They are in different families and genera, never mind species - chimps belong to the family Hominidae and the genus Pan, whereas baboons belong to the family Cercopithecidae and the genus Papio. There are various species of baboon, including the olive baboon (Papio anubis), chacma baboon (Papio ursinus), Hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas) and Guinea baboon (Papio papio). Bonobos (Pan paniscus) are sometimes referred to as pygmy chimps, but they are a different species to the chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes).

  5. In a nutshell, chimps are apes, and baboons are monkeys.

Chimps, gibbons, gorillas, orang-utangs, and several extinct varieties are all considered to be 'great apes'.  They probably have a common ancestor or two, but they are way more distantly related than on the species level. You can recognize them because they don't have tails.

There are distinct species of chimps and of gorillas. I'm not so sure about gibbons and orang-utangs.

Baboons are an Old World monkey. Wish I could think of another example of Old World monkey species. There are some others. Monkeys have tails.

(The monkeys in the New World are considered to be quite distantly related to both apes and Old World monkeys.)

  6. I'm not so sure. I know for a fact that there are actually different species of baboon. So I mean if there's different species within just the baboon. Chimps may not be the same. That's what I know now. I'll update the answer soon.

Chimps: Simia troglodytes: Pan troglodytes, Pan paniscus

Baboons: Simia hamadryas: Papio hamadryas, Papio papio,

Papio anubis, Papio cynocephalus, Papio ursinus

So no they aren't the same species.

  7. They are completely different species. They are not even in the same faimly or genus..see below.

    Chimpanzees:

    Order: Primates

    Family: Hominidae

    Genus: Pan

    Baboons:

    Order: Primates

    Family: Cercopithecidae

    Genus: Papio

  8. No, they have the same Genus, but a different species
