PLEASE ANSWER IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEA!!?!...

Hi,

I know that A levels are the most important thing but actually- when you apply to oxbridge your a level results aren't final so they have to look at your GCSE results.

I got:

A*s in:

english literature

maths

chemistry

physics

biology

religious studies (short course)

citizenship studies(short course)

As in:

english language

french

drama

a B in:

dance

BUT:

everybody in year 11 got their french results marked down due to "teachers being to generous in awarding marks in coursework", but our teachers are appealing because they're just provisional results and they had them invigilated 3 times by different teachers. and in all my french mocks i got almost full marks so that a hopefully will be an a*.

anyway, overall then i got 7/8 a*s (with/without french)

2/3 as

and 1 b for dance.

so, providing i get AAAB or AAAA in my a levels, do you think i could get an interview for oxbridge? (as the interview will ultimately decide whether they give me a place not just grades).

I ask because i reallly really want to go and also i heard they like you to have 8-12 a*s which i may not have.

please reply with any insights :)

thankyou!! :D

(oh and i know i'm a r****d for doing dance :| lol )

  1. They will care more about your AS results and predicted A2 results than your GCSEs. But if they do look at GCSE results yours are very good. Remember that everyone has to do an interview though and your application may weigh heavily on how you do in your interview.

Tip: In the next year you have before you apply to Oxbridge you need to decide whether you want to apply to Oxford or Cambridge, because you can't apply to both since it's so competitive (though if you want to do medicine it will obviously be Cambridge...)

  2. they may look down on a B in "dance" but apart from that you have a shot.

good luck. hope you get in.

  3. Yes,

But did you study from a state school comprehensive or a private school.

Both Oxford and Cambridge are infamously biased in accepting from private schools.

  4. i would say those grades are definitely good enough for oxbridge- but my daughter is in oxford and i know that is not just grades that count.  She did 4 A levels and they told her that it would have been better to do just three as you have more time to concentrate on each subject, so maybe do 4 but drop one at AS level.  The thing they look for most, though, is in your personal statement when you apply - they want you to demonstrate that you have an absolute passion for the subject for which you are applying and that you have an interesting personality and a thoughtful outlook on life.  You can have mutiple A stars, but if you do not have a personality, and if you do not demonstrate an extra-ordinary interest in your subject, they won't accept you!!! Hope this is helpful, good luck and work hard x

  5. yeaaa pretty much lol

your school will talk to you about it next year (allll through the year, gets reeeallly old after a while) and they'll let you know if they think you should/shouldn't, but with them grades i don't see why you wouldn't be able to.

Just wondering, what amkes you want to go their anyway? Is it just the obvious high standard of teaching?? Cause you know some other universities are better for some courses than there.

Anyway, good luck and well done in your results they're really good.

  6. Apply and see if you can get in. You never know till you try, personally Cambridge is the Harvard of UK so you have to be very well rounded to get into a university like that you need loads of extra activities such as sports, team leading, newspaper editor, etc to even be looked at! I got into Columbia University in New York City, NY it's a pretty good university in the USA the only reason I got in was due to my activities list and my personal recommendations from teachers that I knew.

  7. Wow you're smart. I only managed 1 A* but you have a very big chance especially if you achieve all A* & A's in your auctual A levels. Ahaa.good luckk..=]..answer my question please..

  8. well you'll get on any course in college you want with them grades :)

so as long a you do as good at as and a levels then you shouldn't have any problems
