Are these Gas Saving Tips Helpful?

#1 - Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

Number 4 is good advice, the others are pretty much garbage.

1) Tanks in the ground probably do not change temperature much from day to night

2) The pumps are possitive displacement pumps.  Pumping speed does not affect them.

3) Your tank is already filled with gasoline vapors that are in equilibrium with the liquid in the tank.  There will always be some liquid in the tank or you will be out of gasoline and your car will not run.  Since the tank is already in vapor liquid equilibrium, no additional gasoline will vaporize unless the gasoline you add is hotter than the tank.  Since the gasoline you are adding is probably colder, it will probably condense a small amount of vapor.
