I have a 1999 punto mk1. My headlights are dull I can't see much in the dark. I just bought some new bulbs from the 99p stores with a blue tint they are 55w but still dull. So I bought some from ebay, they are 100w with a blue tint. Are these road legal? The seller says they are and they sell the same ones in halfords, but you can't always believe them. Thankyou for your help.

  1. http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Blue-headlight...

I guess it depends on the depth of tint

but please make sure before you take your car out.

  2. I used to have a Vauxhall cavalier Mk 3 I purchased the same 100 watt blue tint bulbs. To be honest when there was good white lines on the road the bulbs were exceptional. But when you drive down a pitch black country lane with no road markings the blue tint on green trees made the bulbs just as bad if not worse than the std bulb. I used those bulbs until one pf them died a natural death and decided they were not worth replacing with the same bulbs i replaced them with 100 watt clear zenon bulbs instead. As far as the wiring goes although the wiring or alternator was not designed to run that sort of wattage in my Cavalier they did not cause any problems. As to the legality of them they are illegal but you would be very unlucky to get caught using them I followed police cars several times and was never pulled over for using them. If your lights beam is aimed too high you will really annoy people but if set at the correct height they do not dazzle any more than the std bulbs. UK legal limit is 55watt dipped main beam and 6o watt high beam

  3. If they are not illegal I think blue tinted lights they ought to be illegal, as I have mistaken then for police on a few occasions.

  4. is it illegal put xenon light bulbs in your car in regular headlight house because the light from xenon bulbs will not be aimed correctly and you will be blinding the drivers in front of you

  5. Your problem is not with the bulbs,,,, If the light appear dull it is either the lens hazed over or the reflector faded, the outer lens can be polished up, if internal you can get better lamps from a breakers

  6. The blue tint is OK, but 100w bulbs are not legal for road use in the UK.

However, it'd take a particularly petty-minded plod to actually do you for it, but they might. I also doubt it'll be a problem for long anyway, as these 100w bulbs don't last much more than a few months, assuming your Punto's headlamp relay and fuses don't go pop as soon as you switch them on!!

  7. Just think about this before fitting them:

55watt lamps draw around 4.5 Amps...100watts ones take 8.3 Amps.

The car wiring, fuses, switches & relays were NEVER designed to take nearly twice the current. If your wiring melts...don't say you weren't warned.

  8. any coloured or tinted bulb is illegal, not to buy or sell but to drive with.
