Question:

Are these diabetes symptoms, or am I overreacting?

My hands tend to be noticeably shaky if it's been a while since I've eaten. Do most people get this way when hungry?

Also, on occasion I have sweet smelling urine - normally this will happen in the morning or if I've been outside working and gotten really hot.

  1. most people pee out more than drink and are very thirsty

  2. I would definitely be concerned enough to see a doctor.

  3. No, your symptoms do NOT sound like diabetes.

Yes, normal people get "shaky" if they haven't eaten for awhile.  It's called HYPOGLYCEMIA -- TO LOW blood suga (diabetes is TOO HIGH blood sugar).

The sweet smelling uring bothers me, though. My first thought is merely  dehydration -- you're not drinking enough water.  This would be especially so if you're working outside.  Always drink LOTS of water -- several 8-ounce glasses a day.

My second thought is ketones in the urine, and that is a very serious problem!  Ketones in the urine are a sign of many serious illnesses, and can be fatal.

I strongly suggest that you see your doctor and have a complete checkup. He can do a very simple blood test to see if you might be diabetic, and be sure to mention to him the sweet smelling urine.

  4. Surely could be, usually youd experiencea lot of drinking, a lot of peeing and weight loss. Get a fingerstick blood sugar test, I am sure you know someone who has a monitor. If its high, get it checked out.
