Are these fish OK together?

My roommate's tank sprung a leak, so her fish are in my 10 gallon tank until she can get another tank (we're in college). I have 2 female bettas and 2 small goldfish (not the fancy kind that need 10 gallons each, the 2 inch ones that are used like feedsish). She has 4 tiger barbs and a little gray fish that's a bottom feeder with a rounded back (she doesn't know what it is). Should we remove any of the fish and try to put them in a bowl or something? It's only for a week or so

  1. Goldfish are coldwater fish barbs and bettas are tropical (warm water) fish.

  2. Tiger barbs are aggressive and may bully the others, so be careful with them. As long as the pleco has a hiding place, he should be fine.

  3. You need at least 3 bettas. The alpha will harass the other one. And any goldfish even feeders need at least 15 gallons if your planning on keeping it its whole life. You see feeders in small tanks because their going to be eaten before it get 6 inches. I would get some more bettas instead of goldfish. The tiger barbs will probably de-fin the bettas. Goldfish need cold water. Around 60F. All the other fish need about 76F or 27C. And bettas CAN be kept with other fish, just be cautious on their tankmates otherwise their peaceful. So yeah, get 1 more betta and get rid of the goldfish. And her gray fish is probably some type of coradoras catfish. She needs 2 more bottom feeders (same species). =)

  4. go out and buy a tank divider that will fit your tank until you get the new tank up and running. separate the fish yours from hers and they will be ok. also goldfish are cold water fish and should never be in with tropicals. does this tank have a heater. if so make sure the temp is no more than 74 or you could lose your goldfish.

  5. Not the fancy kinds that need 10 gallons each....actually the fancy varieties should have about 15 gallons each, and your little "feeder" goldfish actually need more then that, at least 55 gallons since they have the potential to grow over 12 inches.....

I would try to rehome those goldfish, they're not compatible with bettas anyway.  And, they'll end up creating  very poor water quality issues for you, which is impossible to keep up with in a 10 gallon tank with goldfish.  The bettas will be fine in the 10 gallon.

But for now, I would move the bettas into a large bowl and change 50% of the water daily in their bowl.  Leave the others in the tank-you said it's only a week?  I would do daily water changes of about 50% on the tank as well, since it's way overstocked with 4 tiger barbs, 2 goldies, and a corydora catfish(?)from what you described, that's what it sounds like it may be.

  6. the silver one is it round with a red belly if so the all the other fish are in danger this fish is called a red beely pacus and is related to the peronna family they have to be by them selfs

  7. barbs and female bettas can usually coexist well, so that shouldnt be any problem, if the bottom feeder is a plecostomus then that shouldn't be a problem either. i would just be careful with the goldfish, since they usually don't get along well with betas or barbs.

my advice would be to separate the goldfish if needed,

or else put all the fish in the tank together and keep a good watch on them, and separate as needed, if needed.

  8. never put a beta fish with anyother fish
