Are these golf clubs any good?

Question

I want to suprise my hubby with these golf clubs, but since i know nothing about golf, I wanted to ask if Titan clubs are any good. Here are the ones i'm thinking about purchasing: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9905572

They got 5 star reviews on another site, so what do you think?

I've never heard of Knight brand golf clubs, so I can't comment from experience.  However, the fact that I've never seen this name sold at any pro shop or online golf retailer (Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, etc.) makes me nervous about their quality.  It doesn't help either that the Knight Golf web site is down.

As well, at $150 for everything from a bag, 10 clubs and a putter, I'd say you're getting what you pay for with these.

As well, from the description on the WalMart site, it looks like these clubs have extra long shafts.  Is you husband taller than average or have rather long arms?  If not, these might well be too long for him...and that's a problem.

My suggestion is that you make a stop at a local golf shop or other golf-specific store like Golfsmith...talk to the folks there and get a sense of what would be right for your husband.

Going in, you should have a sense of his current skill level (beginner, advanced, etc....and if he's anything but a beginner, I can tell you with confidence that the clubs you're considering are not right for him), his height and whether or not he has unusally long/short arms.  If he's a man of roughly average build, you should have no problems finding clubs suited to his skill level.  The pros at the shop should direct you to clubs that would be appropriate for you husband.

Without know his skill level, it's difficult to make specific recommendations.  But that siad, I offer the following for a beginner...Lynx, Cougar, Snake Eyes.  These are all brands I've had success with...I started with a beginner ser from Cougar 20 years ago.

A little more $ but worth it, particularly if he's moving into the more advanced golfer level...Nickent and Tour Edge.  I'm currently using Nickent irons and Tour Edge woods....they're treating me very well.

At the higher end, Callaway, Cleveland, Mizuno, Ping and TaylorMade all have excellent clubs available.  But these are more expensive, in part because they're high quality clubs and in part because you pay a premium for big name brands....just as you do with most any product on the market.

I'm not familiar with that brand of clubs.  You should understand that clubs that are made for stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart or Target are not of the best quality.  That is why they are sold so cheap.  These stores will lead you to believe that they are high quality, but it just isn't true.

Hate to be wishy washy and say "it depends".  But it does.  If your husband is a beginner and only golfs occassionally, then this is a very good starter set.  All inclusive. Also, depends on your budget.  If he is looking to golf a lot, you might be better off to give him a gift certificate to a golf shop, like Edwin Watts, or PGA Superstore, or Golfsmith and let him get fitted and try out clubs to fit his swing.  You can get him into a nice set of clubs for under $400 that will be better suited and perform better for him.

Just get him a gift card from a local golf shop and let him pick the club set that suited for him. Go to Golfsmith or Golf Galaxy they have large selection of new and pre-owned club Set.
